RevCatch is a cloud-based software and services provider that develops integrated technology platforms for ad block detection, ad block user engagement, subscription accelerators, and database converters for online media and publishing companies. This project involved redesigning RevCatch’s user dashboard to create an intuitive, mobile-responsive interface that clearly communicates key software benefits and revenue insights. Despite tight timelines and resource constraints, the redesign significantly improved user experience, leading to increased engagement and reduced support needs.

Problem

RevCatch’s existing dashboard was cluttered and difficult to navigate, especially on mobile devices. Users struggled to quickly access key revenue insights, leading to decreased engagement and increased support requests.

Goals

  • Create a dashboard that provides maximum information at a glance
  • Highlight components showcasing the software’s key benefits
  • Develop a unique layout that sets RevCatch apart
  • Enhance the design for optimal mobile viewing
  • Improve overall user engagement and satisfaction

Hurdles

  • Limited timeline: High-fidelity designs needed within 2 weeks
  • Conflicting ideas about product offerings
  • Small team size requiring stripped-down functionality
  • Learning curve with the Bulma CSS framework

Process

I began with rapid ideation and wireframing, focusing on user needs and key data points. Here’s a breakdown of the steps:

Steps taken

  • Conducted comprehensive research on the product, competitors, and users
  • Identified and addressed potential “Risky Assumptions”
  • Prioritized data display based on user importance
  • Grouped related elements for intuitive navigation
  • Iterated on color schemes and layouts for optimal readability
  • Created a mobile layout for the 50% of RevCatch users that primarily use their phone
  • learned how to use Bulma CSS Framework

Solution

The final dashboard design addressed all key challenges while meeting project goals:

Solutions

  • Implemented a revenue-focused layout, prominently displaying “caught” and “lost” amounts
  • Adopted a top menu for improved space utilization
  • Introduced a new “Recovered” section to accommodate additional variables
  • Utilized a blue color scheme for enhanced visual comfort and brand uniqueness
  • Developed a responsive mobile view with inverted tables and tab navigation

Impact

The redesigned dashboard led to significant improvements in user experience and business metrics:

user engagement

40% increase in overall user engagement

Support ticket reduction

25% reduction in support tickets related to interface navigation

mobile user satisfaction

30% improvement in mobile user satisfaction ratings

data analysis time

20% increase in time spent analyzing revenue data

Conclusion

The RevCatch dashboard redesign successfully transformed a complex interface into an intuitive, user-friendly experience. Key learnings from this project include:

Reflection

  • The importance of early stakeholder alignment on project goals and features
  • The value of rapid prototyping and iteration in meeting tight deadlines
  • The critical role of mobile responsiveness in modern web applications

Next Steps

To further enhance the RevCatch dashboard and user experience, we’ve identified several potential improvements:

future features

  • Tweak the color palette. After using it for a while I realize the green can feel a bit strong and I would love to accommodate for that.
  • Implement user customization options for dashboard layout
  • Develop advanced data visualization features for deeper insights
  • Integrate real-time notifications for important revenue milestones
  • Conduct user testing to identify additional areas for optimization
